Fried Green Tomatoes [not the movie]

Friday night we ate from our garden.  In a last minute decision we asked our next door neighbors to come over for dinner and we used what he had at our house to throw together a meal.

We started with this...

and this...

And ended up with this...
Fried Green Tomatoes

and this...
Super Sweet Corn

We combined it with venison burgers and had happy, full tummies at the end of the meal.  I l-o-v-e, LOVE having a garden!  It has saved me so many trips to the grocery store.  So thankful my husband and daughter are into gardening because I pretty much stick with growing flowers and herbs.

A recipe for traditional fried green tomatoes is below.  They are so easy to make and super yummy.  But this weekend I used The Neely's recipe because it adds a little spice and used panko bread crumbs, which is my favorite way to crisp a recipe up.

Traditional Fried Green Tomatoes
Cut tomatoes 1/4 inch thick.  Sprinkle both sides with salt and black pepper.  Dredge in flour.  Then dip tomatoes in a mixture of 2 eggs and 1/2 cup milk.  Then dredge in corn flour.  Fry in in vegetable oil until golden brown and crispy.
